Watching movies on TV from ipad

While on the Internet watching a movie, how do you watch it on TV? I bought a special cord which did not work. It says it is not supported? Is there another cable that works?

iPad or ipad2? For the ipad2, I've been using the Apple HDMI cable with great results. Used it on vacation to watch Netflix on a 50 " HD TV.

I am using Ipad 1. Bought a set of cables off eBay for iPhone or iPad. Haven't had any luck even plugging with the charging cord into USB port on tv? When done with charge cable it will let me see pictures on the phone or I pad. Also videos within the videos app but nothing off the net or crackle or Netflix ??
