3G and att

I'm getting a new iPad 3G.my other 2 are wifi only,so I have no clue on getting connected with AT&T. How does the process work? The device is currently in HK ,so it should arrive in a few days. Is there any leg work I need to do before hand to make the process as quick as possible once it arrives?

AT&T site says one come with the device.does this only refer to phones?

Ipad's are not locked to a particular carrier so you can use any carrier that supports the iPad. I live in the UK and we have at least 4 carriers that we can use.
