3ga files

I have an iPad 2 and a friend is sending me 3ga sound files from a galaxy phone I think.

I can't seem to hear these without going to my pc and opening with quick time

When I try to open them on here all I get is the play symbol with a line across it??

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you :-)

You can apparently convert them to .mp3 using Winamp. It still means using the PC but once you've done it you can play them in Music as normal.

1. Download Winamp Media Player
2. Download and install the MP3 output plugin for Winamp
3. When Winamp has been installed and is running, click File (Wavy symbol in top left of player) > Option > Preferences > Output (Category) > then select the MP3 Output (Don't forget to configure it so you choose the path where the mp3 is stored after converting)
4. When you play the .3GA file it will automatically create an MP3 file.

The number of built-in codecs in our iPads are rather limited. I believe you can directly play MP4, MOV, MPEG-4 and H.264 videos .If you can't find a suitable app in the app store, you could try changing the file extensions of the files sent to you to, say, .MPEG-4 or .MOV and then sync them over from your PC to the iPad via iTunes. There is a possibility that might work.
EDIT: oops, should have checked for other answers. The solution by KevinJS above looks neat.
