Add ebooks from other computer?!

I've tried copying and pasting...and dragging them onto device..to no avail. Can someone please tell me how I can add some pub files from a net book via iTunes to my iPad? I do not want to sync as I would lose all the content etc that is on there already. This net book,running xp, is not the one I synced with originally.
Any and all help would be appreciated.
Can I email the file ? Would it open that way?
