Who said the art of letter writing is dead? Adobe isn’t showing any signs of giving up on its fight with Apple anytime soon, as this story from Engadget today shows. Not only has Adobe launched a whimsical Internet ad campaign with a sting in the tail – “We Heart Apple - What we don’t love is anybody taking away your freedom to choose what you create, how you create it, and what you experience on the web†– it has also published an open letter on its website from founders Chuck Geschke and John Warnock called “Our thoughts on open markets†clearly a reply to Steve Jobs’ “Thoughts on Flashâ€. These guys sure do a lot of thinking! Here’s an excerpt of some of those “thoughts†from Adobe:
“If the web fragments into closed systems, if companies put content and applications behind walls, some indeed may thrive – but their success will come at the expense of the very creativity and innovation that has made the Internet a revolutionary force.â€
Alrighty then! Steve Jobs is sharpening his quill as we speak, or, more accurately, probably, firing up his iPad!
