Any way to bypass the space 2xs = a "."

Need to bypass the insert period shortcut.

I need to get this to allow me to basically hold down the space or repeatedly hit space to get correct spacing. (I'm typing lotsa musical song sheets)
No I don't want the "." when hitting spacebar repeatedly.

Any ideas?
