i was thinking of customizing the back of my ipad with some artwork, anyone have any info about warranty worries and reliable places that do this kind of work?
In that case, it'll be fine. Artwork itself sometimes INCREASES the value, but will limit the number of potential buyers. After all, not EVERYONE wants Spidey on their iPad. I have a Zune with the Laurent Fetis "drooling smiley face" on it, which is totally cool. If I could get THAT on my iPad 2, that'd be awesome. It's a neutral type of design that anyone would like.
I guess I should clarify my earlier statement: PERSONAL engraving, such as your name, some identifying info (My Zune has my name, phone number and "reward if found" on it) or some phrasing would mostly certainly reduce the resale value.
