My app store has disappeared, but my iTunes is still visible. I spotlight searched it, but nothing came up. Please help!

Have you tried the old restart/reset* option?
Try this first;
Restart the iPad: Press and hold down the Sleep/wake switch on the top edge of the iPad for few seconds until the red slider appears, slide this across to shut the iPad down. Restart the iPad by pressing the Sleep/wake switch until the Apple logo appears.

If that doesn't work, try this:

Reset the iPad: You can do this by pressing the Home button and the Sleep/wake switch on the top the iPad's case and holding them down together for at least 10 seconds, until you see the Apple logo. The iPad should then reset itself. The boot up process takes a few minutes and then the iPad should be responsive again. More here:

If you don't know the password the, only way to recover the iPad is to do a restore (not restore from backup, that would put the password back).

Be sure to save important files and documents off first. You will have to sync your apps back from iTunes (if they are there) or download them again from the App Store.

If you did not set the password yourself, then perhaps a family member or friend did it for you. Ask around.

There is no easy way around the passwords. If there was, any kid could quickly bypass it; the computer savvy darlings.

You connect your iPad to iTunes, select the device, go to the summary page, and choose restore. This will remove all data and apps from you iPad and return it the activations state. It will also update to iOS 5.1 if you are not already there.

Once it is done your iPad will be in the same state as a brand new one. You will have to activate it. This can be done in iTunes on the computer, or (new with iOS 5) when you turn the iPad on it will walk you through the activation.

You can also go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. I'm not sure if this will update to the current iOS 5.1. If not you'll have to connect it to the computer and iTunes to activate.

Strange. I've never heard that before. But then again I've never had to use it myself.

If that is the case you will only be able to restore the iPad by connecting to a computer with the latest version of iTunes installed, selecting the iPad, and choosing Restore from the Summary page. This will also update your iPad to the most current version of iOS, if you are not already there.

I found another, though more complicated, way of retrieving the passcode without having to restore. Can't post external links so just Google "How to recover forgotten iPhone restrictions passcode". There's a YouTube video and an entry right after that with a written explanation. Says it works for iPads as well.

Nice find. Thanks.

If you look in the Forum Rules Item 13, you will see external links are allowed if they are relevant to the subject and not to your personal site, or an attempt to promote a site or another iPad forum. The strictly no external links rule is for signatures.

In that spirit I believe this is the link you were suggesting.

Hopefully no one read this while I kept adding the wrong link. It's the right one now, or maybe not, since I don't see the mentioned YouTube link.

That's the one. Thanks for the clarification on the links. :)

No problem. It's a good link. I'll have to give it a try someday, just to see if it works {hopefully never because I need it} ;)
