Apple Care

Not sure where to post this but hopefully ill get some opinions.

Buying my wife an iPad 2 (16G wifi) for xmas. I get a little bit of a hook up through work so the $500 pricetag can get me the apple care and iPad or the smart case and iPad with a little cash left over.
Is the apple care worth it? From what i understand it does not cover accidental breakage just anything that goes wrong with it during normal use. They come with the year warranty that would cover the same i believe.

Just trying to reassure myself that the extra cash is going to the correct accessory.

Thanks

Hmm, I was going to say AppleCare+ does have accident coverage; but after browsing the Online Apple Store to double check, I find it is only available for the iPhone.

So sad.

I was speaking to an Apple guy yesterday here, Australia, and was told we don't have it at all here as yet as Apple was trialing it in US first for iPhones.

I'm hoping they expand it to the iPad line before the iPad 3; which I'll probably get.

I've already got coverage for the iPhone through a Verizon plan, but I think the Apple one would be a better deal. It cost a bit more than the monthly payments I've been making, but unlike the Verizon plan would include free tech support from Apple.

Oh well. All we can hope they decide it is worth expanding the service.

Check out SquareTrade if you're looking to buy damage protection. It's reputable and you can often find discount codes online.

I don't buy extra warranties, but I've consistently read that ST has come through for buyers.

Your credit card might offer protection as well.
