Today when I decided to download some updates for my apps, the App Store asked me for my password but the e-mail address was not mine! However this only occurs on the updates page. Elsewhere, it's my account, with my e-mail address. I've tried logging out and logging in again, but the problem persists. Nobody has ever borrowed my iPad.

So how do I get rid of this stranger's e-mail, any ideas??

You mean in the popup that asks for your password. I can't think of anywhere else in the updates tab that you can see your email.

So, from what you said I'm guessing you logged out and back into he store using the button at the bottom of most tabs. That would have been my first suggestion. Go ahead and try the usual fixes below, and see if they work.

When you have problems with an app it's a good idea to close it.

Close: With the problem app closed, double tap on the Home button to get the multitask bar. Tap and hold on any icon in the bar until they jiggle, then tap the minus sign on the problem app. This will remove it from RAM and insure a clean start the next time you launch the app.

If that does not work try a restart,

Restart: Hold down the power button until the power off slider appears. Slide it off. When the iPad finishes shutting down, hold down the power button again until the Apple logo appears.

and then a reset if that does not work.

Reset: Hold down the power and home buttons until the Apple logo appears. The iPad will reboot. This usually takes a bit longer than a restart.
