Today, at the Geneva International Motor Show, Apple has finally unveiled CarPlay, “the smarter, safer and more fun way to use iPhone in the carâ€, which was previously known as ‘iOS in the Car’. Shortly after making the official announcement, Apple has also set up a new section on the official Apple.com website, detailing the new important features that CarPlay has to offer.

CarPlay will first be available on Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo vehicles, and will roll to other manufacturers like BMW Group, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai Motor Company, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia Motors, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan Motor Company, PSA Peugeot Citroën, Subaru, Suzuki and Toyota Motor Corp during this year. Greg Joswiak, Apple’s vice president of iPhone and iOS Product Marketing, said the following:

CarPlay has been designed from the ground up to provide drivers with an incredible experience using their iPhone in the car. iPhone users always want their content at their fingertips and CarPlay lets drivers use their iPhone in the car with minimized distraction. We have an amazing lineup of auto partners rolling out CarPlay, and we’re thrilled it will make its debut this week in Geneva.

CarPlay will only work with the iPhone, which is a real pity for those hoping to use their iPads or iPods. The new product will come with plenty of useful features such as the ability to use Siri voice control for driving, checking messages, answering to texts, emails, phone calls, music, and enjoying your entertainment.

The first applications that are already tailored to take advantage of CarPlay include Beats Radio, Spotify, iHeartRadio, Stitcher, and Apple’s own Podcasts application; with more to get launched in the following months. Would you be interested in buying a car with CarPlay enabled? Could this be one of the deciding factors in your acquisition?
