AppleInsider writes that according to a new report on Digitimes, Apple seems to be making moves to further lessen its manufacturing ties with Samsung, possibly as a result of the current ongoing court case between Apple and Samsung. According to the report, Apple is turning away from Samsung and towards Sharp and LG in terms of component orders for forthcoming versions of the iPad. Apparently the information comes from sources in Apple’s component supply chain, who have said that Apple is looking to reduce the proportion of total shipments of iPad panels from Samsung, and increase the shipments from Sharp and LG Display, or in other words, give its business to Sharp and LG Display rather than Samsung. AppleInsider adds that this move from Apple might not necessarily be totally all about Apple wanting to distance itself from “frenemies†such as Samsung, as Apple is apparently looking to change from using a-Si TFT screens to using oxide TFT screens for the iPad, with the latter being made by Sharp.
