The iPads aren't selling as great as they used to, but that's because the overall industry is declining and not because Apple's products are not as good as before. However, Cupertino doesn't seem to accept reality and still wants to drive further sales.
Now Bloomberg reports that Tim Cook and his team are planning to add a gold color option to the bigger iPads in order to goose sales. Here are more bits from the report:
New versions of the company’s 9.7-inch iPads, anticipated to be unveiled this month, will include gold as a choice of color for the rear metal cover, adding to the silver and gray available for the lighter iPad Air, the people said, asking not to be identified ahead of an announcement. That brings the color palette into line with the iPhone 5s, which come with silver or gold backs for models with a white faceplate, and space gray for those with a black front.
According to the latest earnings report from Apple, sales of the iPad units have declined for the past two quarters. And now, Apple hopes that the new gold option will appeal to more customers.
This isn't the first time when Apple tries to make its products look more appealing by diversifying color choice. The company has also introduced candy-colored iMacs in 1999 and different color versions for the polycarbonate iPhone 5c.
Bloomberg also says that a 12.9-inch screen iPad is still in the pipeline, but it won’t be introduced until next year.
