Apple Wireless Keyboard for ipad, Worth the investment?

I have an ipad 1st gen and I love it, but i find myself struggling to do alot of typing like papers or assignments.
I am considering getting the Apple Wireless Keyboard for the fact that it would be alot easier to type on and that it is portable if I needed
to take it with me.
Thanks :)

Might I suggest you also consider a folding Bluetooth keyboard (Amazon)? They fold up really small and are so compact that there's never the temptation not to take them with you. I've had mine since I got my iPad and it's great - it has some iPad specific keys too - such as Home - and is great for touch typists or those who simply find the on-screen keyboard too cumbersome to use. Battery life is great too. Being a folding keyboard it is, of course, a little 'flimsy' but, with care, I've had no trouble at all with mine - I'm using it to type this now!!

There are several types and brands to choose from and whichever you choose it will be better than the onscreen keyboard. I prefer the Zagg mate because it doubles as a stand and also is a case for the iPad. If I didn't already have that, I've seen one on Amazon that is a leather folio with built in Bluetooth keyboard for $58 American with a ton of positive reviews.

I use two bluetooth keyboards with my iPad (2). The Apple Wireless keyboard is a major upgrade and worth the money, imo, especially if combined with the Incase Origami Workstation (See another thread for a review on this discussion board.) The OW works with both the iPad and iPad 2, by the way.

Another option you might want to consider is the Microsoft 6000 Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard. It's about $25 less than the Apple keyboard and is a marvelous ergonomic keyboard. Unlike the Apple, it includes a separate bluetooth keypad unit that's especially convenient for spreadsheet work.

It's slightly larger than the Apple keybord and can't be used with the InCase Origami Workstation but it fits easily into a small bag with the iPad and works very well with it. I've used mine for a couple of years of hard travel with my laptop and would recommend it very highly.

I was told that those short out quickly. I personally have a apple. I bought a case for it from sfb water field. it's awesome n mobile. Two Qualms: any sudden moves and it takes over whether its in your brief case or someone nudges it in the car. Two: the batteries seems to unscrew the top and slide out. If I was gonna suggest upgrade to apple I'd say cap the battery door instead of screw and create slight ergonomic support.
