AppleInsider reports today that Apple’s forthcoming iPad mini, expected to be released before the end of the year, could be the first Apple tablet featuring a display that has been coated with indium tin oxide (ITO), which is an electronically conductive transparent material that works as an EMI shield, helping to keep radio interference to a minimum. According to the report, Taiwanese company Efun Technology has seen its profits double over the past few years due to its manufacturing of flexible substrates covered with ITO. The coatings are apparently very thin and very light, which makes them ideal for helping to protect devices from radio frequency interference, as well as being electromagnetic shields. In the past, Efun’s business has largely come from Samsung, which has used the technology on its phones, but apparently industry sources are now saying that Apple will be using the technology in its forthcoming iPad mini.

That's interesting. I wonder what the impact on wifi, gps, and cellular operation would be if the entire screen blocks RF? Gosh, it sounds like a potential huge fail. I hope not.
