Apps in "purchased"

I know you can't permanently delete apps from the purchased area in the apps store. I just found this out that even though one deletes apps, they are in the purchased area forever. What I do want to know-- do these apps that I thought I deleted, take up memory/space on my iPad? Thanks in advance for the info.

The purchases are saved the cloud and available to redownload on any iPad with the same apple ID. They only take up memory on your iPad if you redownload them.
