Hello! I'm here because I'm researching tablets and looking to upgrade my current smartphone and wanting to make the right choices in tandem - I haven't bought either yet. I'm not an Apple computer user. I've had PCs for over 20 years (Currently a Toshiba laptop and a Samsung netbook) and a Samsung smartphone for 3. But I do have a nanopod 4. My partner has an iphone 2. I'm in the UK.

The main attraction for me is to be able to paint digitally on an tablet like Hockney and to be able to surf in bed and stream Iplayer bbc content, and keep track of gmail. I've just realized that I will have to choose an ipad for my tablet because the only decent painting app available is the one Hockney uses - Brushes - only available through Apple (sigh). The android art apps are ghastly. So I'm currently considering the ipad 3 and wondering about the rumors of an ipad mini and worrying about reports of ipad 3 overheating problems.

And I have questions about storage and moving files between ipad and non-apple devices and how to use itunes with 2 devices. Will search your archives and current threads and post specific questions as appropriate.

Glad to find this forum and see what great support is offered here!

Glad you could join us. Here's a neat example of what is possible on the iPad.

Thank you! And thanks for the links - some of which I've already found and benefited from. And I've spent another whole day on research and found that happily there are many interesting art and creative apps I'd like to try out. I did have a depressing moment when I realised that probably many won't fare so well on the new ipad as they might not be upgraded yet, but well, the new ipad does seem to be a game changer in terms of its specs so I guess the reality is developers will either move their product on to complement it or they won't and will, in time, fade away. Brushes seems to be facing this fate. Sad really, it's a lovely app. Still everything has its life cycle. Briefly wondered about getting an ipad 2 but just can't, saw the new ipad today at a friends and well.....you know...technolust kicked in... (sigh) So will probably buy it tomorrow.

Great to hear you are going with the iPad 3. We do have a thread here with pics of art done on the iPad....do a search and you should find it....hopefully members have posted what app they have used for creating their pieces. Enjoy!

I still use Brushes periodically, but you really should look into ProCreate.

Thanks for suggesting, yes, have had a good look and it's one of the apps I intend to get!

Bought the new ipad today!!! Dithered over 16 or 32 but plumped for 16 - seems icloud and dropbox will enable me to move and store backup files elsewhere.
I now have 2 weeks to check it out and decide if I need to change it or if it has any running problems.

My 1G was 64 gigs. Turned out I never really watched all the movies or listened to all my music on that iPad, so 16 gig is enough on this new iPad. Trimmed down my photo storage too. Almost half of it now is apps. I'm a bit of an app junky, but even then, deleting unused ones doesn't save much space. GarageBand is huge though. I have a ton of my art and drawings and scans and when I moved a lot of those to my Mac through iTunes, I didn't see much of a savings. Maybe 2 gigs.

I'm trying to focus this iPad on creative work.
