Audible notification when receiving a iMessage

Following the upgrade to IOS 5, I wanted to use the iMessages app to text with other IOS 5 users. I can receive messages, but I do not get an audible alert when I receive a message and I am not finding a setting to turn one on. Is there an audible alert setting?

Go to Settings, General, Sounds, and then drag that blue bar to as high as you want it. Another way is by pressing the Volume Up button while at the Homescreen, when no music is playing and no sounds are playing in the background.

Hi and Welcome to the Forum!

To get alerts for iMessage go into Settings - Notifications - Messages. Make sure notifications is turned on here and then choose your alert style.

Can't believe that half volume wasn't enough for me to hear it, but turned it up and it now works! Thank you!!

As with every phone/device I've used, different alert sounds have different volumes. Some are quite loud at half volume. Others are faint. While it limits your choice of sounds to use, it can also be helpful. By carefully picking the sounds for different alerts it is possible to make important stuff loud while keeping the minor-maybe-I care-maybe-I-don't alerts more subtle.

Also, there there is a switch to tie the alert sounds to the master volume. If you have this turned on any level you set for the alerts lasts no longer than until the next time you touch the volume buttons.

Good Luck.
