iMore reports today that the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) intends to sue Apple for its adverts for the new iPad. This is because the new ads say that the LTE iPad is 4G compatible, despite the fact that it is actually incompatible with the 4G LTE network in Australia. The ACCC says that it is seeking “injunctions, pecuniary penalties, corrective advertising and refunds to consumers affected.†Basically, Australian LTE runs on 1800 MHz, whereas the new iPad models run on 700 MHz and 2100 MHz, so they're simply not compatible. Australian companies such as Telstra, Optus and Vodafone have all amended their adverts in Australia to say that the new iPad has “ultrafast wireless†rather than 4G, but as iMore notes, Apple’s own site says that the new iPad comes with “Wi-Fi + 4Gâ€, which, the ACCC’s argument goes, is misleading.
