I have auto fill open but how does it work. My kindle fire will fill in forms after typing the first few letters of the word. How do I get this with iPad or is it not available.

Yes, it is possible and it works almost the same way your Kindle does. I've turned mine off, it would fill in German words, and that's of no use in an English forum.
You can get it in Settings - General - Keyboard - Auto Correction (I hope I translated it right).
