Battery problem?

My mini 2 is not even a year old. For past several months I have to recharge every day, sometimes twice a day. Light use, mainly reading emails . How to find out if something unknown is running
All the time ? Or suggestions....... Thanks , Doris

You can see how much battery power each App is using by going to Battery in Settings. Here you can also see how much each App is using in the background, by tapping the little clock (top right).

Hi Doris - please provide some more information - the iPad Mini 2 was first released in November 2013 - you have owned yours for less than a year - is this an older/refurbished device or did you buy 'new' from Apple or another Apple provider? Just trying to determine if this might be a 3 year old vs. a 1 year old battery which would impact on the advice given. Also, tell us if the Mini 2 is under warranty and whether the problem started w/ an iOS update/upgrade (e.g. going recently to 10.0.1)? Dave :)

Thank you Jupiter 7. Very helpful. But something is using battery because as I Sit here doing nothing on the iPad, watching the battery # on settings, it goes down .
How can I tell if this battery is just dying? IPad is 8 months old. And can I find what is running all the time if it's that?

Thanks and Hi giradman. This Mini was bought new at the Apple Store and is about 8 months old now. No, the problem started well before that update. I guess it's possible that the battery was a dud to start with? As I watch my settings screen, doing nothing on the iPad the battery goes down slowly but steadily. Is something running all the time maybe?

Are you actually going to the Settings section where it shows the percentage of the battery usage per App, even the amount when it is not on the screen. You may see a particular App that is using a huge amount, in which case you could try deleting and the reinstalling.

Well, you're still under warranty - I would suggest making an appointment at the Apple Store w/ the 'Genius Bar', and let them run some diagnostics on the battery - good luck and let us know - that battery if indeed < 1 year old should be still in great shape. Dave :)

Yes, I agree Dave, but we are in Canada and won't be back in Az till Nov. I def will take it in, but was hoping to 'fix" the problem in the meantime.

Yes, I will, but we won't be back in Az till Nov. Had
Hoped for solution meanwhile. Many thanks.

Hi again Doris - well, we did not know about Canada - ;) As suggested by Jupiter7, are you near a city in Canada that his an Apple Store - an option? Do you have Apple's standard warranty or did you add AppleCare? Regardless, you should still be under warranty when returning to Arizona - correct?

In the meantime, try letting the battery completely exhaust (need to get well under 10% charge) until the iPad goes blank, then charge overnight - the battery monitoring feature may reset and offer better performance - about all that I can offer at the moment. Dave :)

Doris - where are you in Canada? Susan & I have not been back there in a while, but just reviewing some of my old pics from over several decades ago - Lake Louise in Alberta (we did canoe on that gorgeous lake) & the Cape Breton Lodge on the Nova Scotia island - I drove the Cabot Trail in our rental car (and we ate lobsters every day!) - wonderful memories. Dave :)
