Blank screen

I have had my new ipad only a short time and am not sure what to do....I think it ran down (battery) and when I went to charge it overnight....no charging happened...I can't seem to get anything to happen...the screen is blank....wondering if it went "dead" and was so drained that it won't now charge unless I do something special, and have no clue what that might be...can someone help me?

Can you try a reboot? This is done by pressing the Power and Home button simultaneously for 7 seconds.

Just for troubleshooting purposes, has the iPad been jailbroken, or was it running the stock iPad firmware?
