Bookmark panel takes up one third of ipad display - how to fix?

Tap the book icon at the top left to remove it.

Just to make sure:
If it looks like this, did you tap the button the arrow's pointing at?

This should remove the bookmark list.
If it looks different, please explain what you're experiencing, or post a screenshot.
