Can you put shortcuts to safari bookmarks on the desktop in icon form?

Just click the + button and the option to add to home page will pop up. You then have am icon of that page for fast access

...and, is there anyway to customize that icon? Bookmarks saved to the Home Screen often just show pieces of text from the website...I'd like to paste in the company logo or whatever...

The only way to do that is to zoom in on the logo on the webpage. When you add it to your desktop it will display the zoomed in portion.
