Broken iPad screen

Hi, I'm a new user of iPad. This morning, my iPad2 slipped off my lap and fell to the floor, breaking the screen. Is it possible to replace the screen or do I have to purchase a new one?

Thank you,

Susan

How bad did the screen break? If it wasn't that serious, then you can have the screen repaired by having a plastic covering put over the screen to help protect the screen from being harmed when dropped, if it's to serious, you may have to purchase a new iPad, when I got my 1st iPad though, I dropped it in the bus line at school and broke the screen, but, there's some insurance you can get for an iPad if it breaks, and if you turn the broken iPad in, they will give you a new one for free in a couple of days.
But the insurance costs a lot of money and you have to get the insurance with the iPad when you buy it I think in order to turn it in, but still, if the screen is not damaged too seriously, you can have a plastic screen placed over it.

Hope this helped! ;)

Hi Susan and welcome to the Forum!

So sorry to hear about your screen.

The best solution we have for fixing a broken iPad is to make an appointment with the Genius Bar at your nearest Apple Store....you will not need your receipt as they can look up all relevant info at the store. They will most probably offer to replace your iPad but for a cost...it's normally half of the original cost of the iPad. If this is fine by you, make sure you do a complete backup of your iPad before you go.

There are other businesses that can do this for you which will probably be cheaper but be aware that this will void your warranty, but then again your warranty would already be voided because of the drop. If you do replace with Apple, your warranty is reinstated. I have also heard many members who have gone the cheaper route then find that their WiFi will not work as this has been damaged by the replacing of the screen.

In addition, you can also contact Apple customer service. Here are some great web sites to aid you in your repair search:
