browser refresh?

just got the ipad 2 and have a question. if im viewing webpages that update things like statuses ie. facebook feeds.....i notice the browser doesnt automatically update them and i have to refresh the page to see any new items...is this working as intended?

'Settings', 'Safari', 'JavaScript' -> 'On' may work.

ok, maybe i should be clearer. Is there a app that will allow me to have facebook on and will automatically update feeds/display new message icons without me having to hit refresh every minute?
