Can a 16GB iPad be upgraded to 32/64?

1. I'm supposed to be getting a 16GB iPad as part of a promo. I would like more storage, but is it something that can be done, specifically by me?
2. I've seen a reference to WEP keys, but does it support WPA2?

Greetings and welcome to the forum!

#1 - It can not be done by anybody. If you need/want more space, sell the promo iPad and buy the bigger one!

#2 - Yes!

You'll find 16gb surprisingly useable, especially if you use streaming apps like Air Video and Zumocast.
Most apps are fairly small and once you've finished downloading far too many when you first get it, you'll find you only use a certain number of them on a regular basis.
Unless you travel a lot it should be more than adequate as it really shines when connected to the internet.

Thanks to both of you for the replies. Can I assume that it uses standard micro flash cards that can be substituted for the original 16Gb one? If so, what kind, i.e. sd. cf, or?

The problem is with opening the iPad and reclosing it tightly without breaking the seal. This must be time consuming because even Apple will just switch iPad's with you instead of repairing it when it breaks.

You may assume that, but you would be incorrect. Best to assume that the memory cannot be upgraded, swapped, altered or changed in any way. Then you would be correct.

Do what my friends who purchased the 16gb model have all done, be sad about the choice, sell the device and get a 64gb iPad.

True I've been able to pair it down to 150 Apps I use regularly. I've tried to get rid of some useless Apps I never use, but Safari, Notes, and YouTube cannot be deleted. That and my music and Video libraries make 32gb woefully inadequate.

As I understand things, the iPad processor has the memory integral to the processor chip. So no memory upgrade and replacing the chip [if possible] would cost more than the "bigger" iPad IMO, even if you could get the chip in quantities of one.

Its not that you cant change the chip, its the $6000 in technical eqp needed to do it... Plus the training to setup and run it..... Yea go for it!

Be happy with what you got. Otherwise if you cant afford a "bigger" ipad, then this is a luxury item youll have to deal with. Bummer dude.

^You can store data on the memory stick and acces it via wifi, which is how I store large data files. There's no solution for more RAM, if that's what you meant.

Sorry I was not very clear this is one product

Introducing AirStash
AirStash stores your movies, music, photos, and documents and wirelessly shares them with your phone, media player, netbook, tablet, computer, and more. Use AirStash like a USB flash drive to drag & drop the files you want to your SD card while charging the built-in lithium polymer battery, then unplug & play on all of your browser-enabled WiFi devices*.

If you know how to use a USB drive and a web browser, you know how to use AirStash. Once you own AirStash, every other USB flash drive will seem less evolved.

Easy wireless access to your media stash
Just connect your WiFi enabled device to your AirStash and instantly surf & stream your media files through your web browser. No software or app installation is required.

That's why I went a head and got the 64 it's a lot of money in general but mine was lucky enough to go on best buy card, but for a $100 diff between 32 & 64 was a no brainer, much rather have too much space left than run out..
