I own an APPLE IPAD MC496TY currently on ios4.2.1 and bought it Italy.

I currently can use it with the Etisalat 3G Network Provider in Nigeria as I currently there for visit.

My question is this.... Can I upgrade to ios5.0.1 without having to unlock it to use the Etisalat 3G carrier in Nigeria because they do not have very reliable wifi hotpots and providers?

Is my ipad factory unlocked? because I currently can't find any application like cydia or blackrain in it....

Thanks for your responses.

Peace Ik.

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Most iPads are sold unlocked and if you have used it in Italy and are now using it with a Nigerian carrier that would support the theory that it is unlocked. Cydia is used for Jailbroken iPads and has nothing to do with whether the iPad is unlocked or not. To upgrade to 5.0.1 your iPad will need to be hooked up with your computer, preferably the usual one that you sync with. Is this available? This update is a rather big one also and cannot be done with 3G.
