Cannotnget emails on ipad2 or iphone4s

Today I noticed I was not getting my emails on my ipad2 or on my iPhone 4S. (They are visible on the Comcast website though)

Also, my iphone generated 1000 emails (past emails) even though I had it set at 50.

What happened?
I have not upgraded to iOS 7.
 
Comcast could have a problem when too many emails are in the inbox.
Access the email account through a browser and delete emails you don't need any more, or move them to another folder. (Reduce the number of mails in your inbox.)
