Changes in 7th Gen over 2 1/2 years?

Is there any real difference between a 2 1/2 year old 7th Gen and one bought today? In other words, have there been any improvements made? What would be the next logical step to take if I wanted to upgrade?

Quite a few differences. Whether you'll care about them is up to you. Some highlights:

USB-C port instead of USB-A
4GB of RAM instead of 3GB
Slightly better display.
Will support an external monitor
Won't use the old Smart Keyboard
Get's the new Magic Keyboard Folio (has a trackpad)
Somewhat better cameras, photo, and video
No audio jack
