Closing Apps

How do you close an open App? In the previous OP system you double clicked and the apps scrolled across the bottom of the screen....you then held your finger on the App you wanted to close until an X appear and then you closed the App...why does this not work in OS7?

all you have to do is swipe up on the page just above the app icon, not on the icon itself.
