Friends,

I have an iPad 3 using the latest OSI. I can open MP4 video files that I've placed in Dropbox (currently watching Dexter, Season 6) with no problem. But I can't close the files. I currently have six of them open, but try as I might, and googling for answers, I can't figure out how to close individual video files one at a time. I can move to another file via the Home Button, but when I come back to Dropbox, all the open files are the for me to swipe into existence right to left, but they remain with no visible (obvious?) way for me to close them. So thanks for your input with what will probably turn out to be a simple fix. Good night.

Do you see anything but the video when it's on the screen? If no, tap the screen and you should get a bar at the top and bottom. In the top bar should be an arrow (looks like this: > ). Note that you'll see this arrow only in landscape view; in portrait view, the symbol you will see is the Dropbox icon.

Regardless of which symbol you see, tap it and, on the left should appear the contents of the folder you are in. At the top left of this list is another button (which will be labeled with the name of the next folder up in your folder structure. Keep tapping that button to go all the way back to your main Dropbox folder...

Hopefully, that does it. If not, holler back - I've got pictures! :)

Marilyn,

Thanks for the help. I can do everything you've taught me to do. But what I cannot do is put back into their folders the eight (yikes!) individual video files that all remain open on my desktop. I can scroll through them by swiping through them with my finger left to right and right to left, but can't seem to close any one individual video file. And when I close my iPad and then reopen it, they're all still open there on the desktop. And likewise, when I shut down my iPad and then turn it back on, there they are. There must be a way to close individual video files from the desktop, but for the life of me I can't find the way to do this. Godspeed.

Can you provide a screenshot of what you see? I'm not wrapping my head around your issue.

It sounds as if you are still in Dropbox. So, when you navigate to the top dropbox folder and select something else to view in Dropbox, that something else doesn't open?

The files are not open. At least not in the way that you would normally think of them as being open on a computer.. DropBox only keeps a local copy of the file if you favorite it. What you are seeing should be some snapshot views, and probably a placeholder for wherever you left off viewing the video(s). It's a quick view mode that DropBox users for photos and videos.

Though it is possible that some of the files or file are in DropBox's temporary buffer, the space Dropbox uses for this is limited and will clear on it's own.

Don't worry about it. It's not taking up space. Or at least not any more than DropBox usually takes up.

Thanks Marilyn and Twerp Poet,

All is sorted out. It sure seems like each episode of Dexter I've watched are still open, and each one swipes right or left with myt finger, with about six or seven episodes open, showing their start-up page with the little triangle button in the middle ready to punch and begin watching. It just seems like there should be an easy way to "put away" episodes I don't still want or need to be open and visible on my desktop when I've got Dropbox open and on the top. Godspeed.
