Connect to Vista PC to play music

Hi, I'm new here and only been an iPad user since July.

One of the main things that I'd like to do but haven't had great success in yet is being able to view and play my music files on my PC but I don't want to go down the whole Itunes route.

I have tried iSub which had varied success, the connection kept dropping out - don't know if this was my router or the iPad though. I never got to the bottom of it before the trial period ended and I was asked to pay up to continue using iSub. Obviously if I had no problems with it I would have done, but I was reluctant to pay up for an intermittent service for whatever reason.

Anyway, continuing in my quest I have been trying to access my PC using "Remote Files" app but I keep getting "access denied" even though I've carefully followed the instructions. I don't know if my PC would block my iPad from connecting - firewall etc as I'm not really that technical.

So I was wondering if anyone can offer advice, for using Remote Files (especially for playing music) or if anyone has had the same problem and overcome it, OR if there's a better alternative out there - free preferably in case it doesn't work, or at least with a trial period.

:)

It's one of the biggest iAnnoyances in my opinion (that and the inability to add additional storage cards or USB ;) ). For the purpose of browsing other computers on the LAN and playing content directly from there, I was advised to get Buzz Player. It's mostly great, but sometimes when I play video with it, it totally freezes.

One word - iTunes. Works beautifully to play your music, tag it, back it up, make play lists, etc.

Invest the three minutes it takes to figure it out and you will never look back.
