Connection to vista via itunes with iphone5

I am trying to connect my iPhone 5 to my vista laptop in iTunes. iTunes runs, but I can't see my device. It doesn't connect. My laptop sees my phone as a camera only. My iPad also won't connect for the same reason. Please help.

Hi, welcome to iPF!

There are a few things you could do:
Take a look at your version of iTunes. If it's not the latest one, you should update it.
Restart: turn off your iPad/iPhone and on again, you should also restart your pc.
Charge your devices. Perhaps that's why it isn't working.
Try another USB port. Maybe it will work with another port.
Delete iTunes on your computer and reinstall it.

Thanks for the assistance. As it turns out, I had to load the proper driver on my laptop. It only saw my iPhone as a camera. That done, everything is sorted.
