Coordinating iTunes with iPad

I don't know if anyone has had this problem so I hope there is a simple fix.
When I connect my iPad to my computer (Windows) and go into the TV Shows settings to select downloads, I just checked off 5 episodes of Chicago PD, #4,5,6,7,8. Previously, I had #1,2,3 checked off but I watched them so I unchecked them. When I update, my iPad currently shows that episodes 1,2,3 have been seen (no blue dots) and no cloud on the right side, but only episodes 4,5 show no cloud while 6,7,8 show blue dots (as do all the ones I have not watched) clouds on the right side. I thought that the cloud meant that I had not checked the episodes to be downloaded.
This has been happening for awhile in many instances with different shows. No matter what I check it does not always come up with no cloud (downloaded).
I will be going into the hospital in a few days and want to have as much downloaded as possible as I do not think I will have access to a network.
Does anyone know what is happening? maybe I am not doing this correctly although this is my 2nd iPad and have had it for almost 2 years.
Thanks
RAM

The dot means the episode has not be watched. The cloud means the episode has not been downloaded. Since you checked them in iTunes for sync, those episodes really should have been copied to the iPad (assuming they were already downloaded in iTunes).

In the meantime, there is no reason to bother with iTunes. Just tap on the cloud icon next to the episodes and they will download directly to the iPad.

If you go to Settings > Vidoes and turn on Show iTunes Purchases, then you will see all your iTunes purchased Movies and TV Shows (under the tab of the same name). Those that have a cloud icon next to them are not on the iPad, but you can download them by tapping the cloud icon.
