Could someone please help me?

I am interested in purchasing the New iPad, although I am leaving for holiday on the twenty first; I would really like to have the device for when I go. On Friday night, I saw if I pre ordered it, it would come on the 16th although I had not decided which model. I slept on it, and when I awoke on Saturday morning, ready to order it, I found that if I had pre ordered it, it would only come in April. I am thinking about going to wait in line for it on Friday, although I have a few questions if you wouldn't mind.
How early would I have to go to guarantee an iPad?
How long would I have to wait in line?
Is there any other way to get the iPad, or stores that would definitely stock it on launch?

I would prefer not to wait in line, although I will if I must. Also, I live in Perth, Australia.
Thanks to everyone in advance!

no body can answer those questions.

the bottom line is, go as early as possible. but, some stores around the world have peeps camped outside in line a good 3 or 4 days early!!!! there are thousands in your exact same boat very near to you, so getting one on the day would probably mean you're either going to have to wait in line for a very very long time (and even then there's no garantee there'll be any left in stock), or be bloody lucky and find an outlet that peeps havent cottoned on to.

look at the hassle on the ipad2 release day. bedlam across the world. even though the release will be more prepared, it'll still be a lottery. try phoning up the shops you want to try and ask how last year's ipad2 release went. that might give you a good idea.

Thanks!
As I said, usually I wouldn't mind waiting although I think it would be great of when I go on holiday.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but is there any chance some people have cancelled their pre orders and there are some, even if a minuscule number available?
Thanks again!

I pre-ordered my ipad2 as early as I could. I still went from shop to shop trying to buy one on release day. Unsuccessfully. I had to wait 2 months for my delivery. If I would have managed to buy one Apple would have instantly cancelled my online order

I hear RadioShack is taking pre-orders. If no one else has beat you to your local RadioShack, you might get lucky.

That's U.S. only, of course.
