I want the date added to the time of day at the top of the screen. How?

I believe you would have to jailbreak your iPad to be able to do that. If you are currently on iOS 6.0.1, you will have to wait for a jail break to be released. Unless, that is, if you own an iPad 2 and have blobs for iOS 5.x and iOS 4.x and follow this tutorial.

In the mean time, the native Calendar app's icon always displays the current date. Add it to your launch bar to see it on all home screens.
