deleting emails from the latest ipad

I was under the impression that you could delete emails from your ipad and they would not be deleted from your desk top. I am using Aol to access my emails on the I pad and I am using a PC. When I delete the emails on my I pad they disappear from my desk top also. Is there any way to delete emails from Ipad and not have it affect the new mail in my PC.
If I use the mail app will the same thing happen?
