Deleting emails without viewing

Does anyone know a way in which to alter the settings on the iPad 2 so that you don't have to view all the emails when they come in? Naturally there is loads of spam that comes through and I want to be able to delete mail without viewing each one and selecting the delete from within the email. Basically I need to turn off the viewing pane and just see the list of emails, which I can then click on to open...is this possible?

In the inbox, use the edit button then you can select which emails you want to delete without opening them or if its just one email swipe your finger like your drawing a line thru it across the title/2 line preview in the inbox (or any folder) and the delete button will appear.
