Deleting Items: “Couldn’t Communicated with a Helper Application”

I am sorting through text documents, deleting ones I no longer need. After deletion, some of them re-appear in the Files window where I’m doing this sorting, say if I put something in Files’ place in split view, then come back to Files. Sometimes I get the warning, below. Any clue what this issue is and how to solve it?

Are those files maybe open in another active app? That is all I can think of.

Files also has a Recently Deleted folder. Check there to make sure they are really deleted.
