Disable iPad keyboard?

I bought a logitech ultra thin keyboard cover (bluetooth) which is pretty cool. I'm pretty much homebound due to health issues, so I won't be carting the iPad around much. I know how to make the keyboard temporarily disappear using the keyboard key, but I'd like to disable it altogether - not eliminate it (duh). Any help would be more than appreciated!
