Display ipad on computer?

Mirroring the iPad screen to hdmi tv is marvellous, but can I mirror it to my desk top pc?
Ie, can I use my spare monitor to view my ad screen on?

I'm assuming your monitor doesn't have an HDMI input, like most new monitors do. Does it have a VGA input? Could you use the iPad VGA adaptor?
