Does anyone have both iPhone and iPad?

Does anyone on here already have both an iPhone and an iPad?

I'm wondering if they can find each other via the bluetooth and whether its possible to send text composed on the iPad to the iPhone?

Would someone try it for me if you have both?

I'm struggling with texting on Blackberry, I thought if I got iPhone and also put zentap pro on that (with word prediction and abbreviations/templates) I could type my sms then remotely open the iphone texting and paste it into it to send.

It would be better if this worked over bluetooth just in case I was away from wi-fi and needed to text someone in an emergency.

All the texting apps I found for iPad only seem to work on US numbers and I'm in the UK. My iPad is wi-fi only and I live in village so there are no other 'wif-fi spots' like cafe's when I'm out with my dog (in case mobility scooter breaks down).

Anyone know if there's a way to make this work please?

Neither the iPhone or iPad can use Bluetooth to connect Bluetooth is for devices such as speakers and in car systems such as parrot yes I have both iPhone 3GS and iPhone plus a parrot. ( no it does not squark lol )

erm.. only parrots i know of are the squarking type! :)

It seems odd that they have app so you can connect to a Mac and use your iPhone or iPad to access it but cant use same app for them to access each other? How does hippo remote and Jaadu VNC work then? over wi-fi?

My Blackberry Storm is the first one it doesnt have wi-fi but thats no good to me when I'm stuck outside and my mobility scooter has broken down.. lol!

Some people have mentioned 'tethering' phones to iPads and using the phones data plan to access internet? I'm not sure how they do this as iPad doesn't have any USB cables or anything, but maybe possibility to use the BB's 3G connection in places where no wi-fi to get ipad online and use online sms service??

The reason I ask is that the big communication aids companies like Dynavox they have ability to pair with a mobile phone so the person can compose their text messages on their specialist device. I am trying to do similar with the iPad which I'm using as communication aid also with proloquo2go text to speech on it.

As mine is wi-fi only though and I live in small village I couldn't access texting online on iPad outside of my house unless I could somehow use the 3G connection on the Blackberry.

I wish I'd got the 3G iPad now but was told you cant text from iPad so thought it be a waste of money for me!

This is just something I would consider. Depending on the coverage in your area, you may consider selling your wifi model and upgrading to a 3G. Normally I wouldn't recommend this because electronics depreciate some once out of the box.

However, with the demand for iPads being what it is, Ive know several people who have paid for their 3G by getting at least full msrp or better on ebay or craigslist.

I'm not familiar with the apps and capabilities in your country, but here in the US, the free SMS apps work great. I really hope you find a solution that works. My grandmother had mobility problems due to a terrible car accident, and was immobile except for a wheelchair for 20 years. She used a mobility scooter as well. There were a few occasions where we found her in the back yard when we checked on her in the mornings. This was before cell phones, and she had sat out there all night broken down on her scooter. She had a panic button set up with the alarm system but wouldn't use it because she said the emergency services should be dealing with people that really needed them lol, as if sitting outside for 10 hours not being able to walk or talk wasn't an important situation.

Are there any dictation apps available for the BB? There's at least one for the iPhone (Dragon dictation), so maybe there's one available in the BB app store equivalent.

That might make texting on your Bb easier.

Are you able to use a full size keyboard? Another option is You could get a folding bluetooth keyboard to use with your BB to type your text. A couple models of folding bluetooth keyboards are: Freedom Pro, iGo Stowaway. You can search on amazon.com for "folding bluetooth keyboard" and see if you can get them in the UK. Cheaper than buying a 3G iPad. :)

As a bonus, it will work for the iPad too. I have a Microsoft bluetooth 6000 keyboard to use with my wifi iPad. I'd like a folding keyboard so it's more portable, but I use the onscreen keyboard most of the time so the cost is not justified.

Good luck in your search for a good solution!

Hi

I cant use dictation software as I have quite severe speech problems and use sign language and a communication aid mainly to communicate.

I looked up the Freedom Pro folding keyboard though that looks good. I like it cos it will fit in pocket or wheelchair bag and I still get alerted to incoming texts from Blackberry.

Just working out how to get the drivers onto my blackberry as it doesnt have a Data plan just basic PAYG SIM.

Someone told me I can use my computers internet connection to get drivers onto blackberry so I'm just waiting for a cable to arrive off Ebay to try it, if it works I think I will look on Ebay for the Freedom Bluetooth keyboard.

I think that will be my cheapest option as I have seen some on there for around £50 with both types of bluetooth so it would also work with iPad too.

Thanks to everyone who answered.

Hi phantom

Have you ever tried pairing them to see if you can compose a text on the iPad and it goes into iPhone?

The Freedom Pro will work without drivers usually, just some of the buttons will not be available...like ending or placing a call button.

I use it on my iPad with no drivers.

You can actually get the Freedom Pro drivers using just your BB's internet connection. The User Guide for the keyboard is here: Freedom Pro Keyboard: User Guide - Powered By Kayako SupportSuite

The drivers would be used for programming special keys as Matth3w said. Otherwise, you can probably just use the keyboard as-is for typing without any drivers.

The more I look at the folding bluetooth keyboard, the more I want one just for the gadget appeal. :) Must resist...

Good luck with your search on eBay! Hope you get a good deal!
