Downgrading iPad 1 to iOS 3/4 without SHSH Blobs

Hi all,

I have a question that I just can't get sorted out. I have an iPad 1 and I want to restore it to iOS 3 or 4. Why? Because it will be way faster and I do not need any function that is iOS 5-only. I only have the SHSH Blobs of iOS 5.1.1. The Internet tells me I can do this, but I keep getting errors and I just don't know what to do anymore. So, now I am here and I hope to get some advice.

What I did:
I saved my SHSH blobs from iOS 5.1.1.
Then I modified those blobs with Bluefreeze to use them with iOS 4.2.1.
Then I stitched the blobs into an iOS 4.2.1 IPSW using Sn0wbreeze.
Next, I put the iPad into pwned DFU mode and tried to install the modified IPSW with iTunes.

This seemed to work until the very end, but then I got the iTunes error 37.
I tried modifying my host file every possible way, I tried to run a SSH server, I tried different cable, I tried everything I knew, but I keep getting the error. I tried every possible solution to solve this error, but no luck.

So currently, I am stuck at this. Does anyone know what to do now? Can I install iOS 3 or 4 without blobs? The Internet says so, but only from iOS 5.1.1 to 5.0.1 and that is not my goal.

Is there anyone that knows what to do now? Anyone that knows more about this than me? I am out of ideas.

Thanks in advance.

PS. If this is in the wrong section, I request this thread be moved to the correct section by a moderator. Thanks.

I'm sorry, but without SHSH blobs for a specific iOS, you cannot downgrade the iPad1 TO that iOS. Ever.

Sorry.

That sucks, I came pretty far. The only thing is that it keeps giving me the error 37. I have an IPSW of iOS 4.2.1 stitched with the blobs that I modified to work with iOS 4.2.1, so it should just work. But I keep getting those errors. I'll take your word for it but if you don't mind I'll also wait to see what other users say.

Just out of curiosity, what is the reason Apple does not allow downgrading?

Use a different utility to stitch the IPSW such as iFaith. Or, use RedSn0w's restore feature. As Marilyn has already said, without SHSH blobs, you cannot restore to any iOS period, unless you're on an older device, or, the iOS is still currently being signed. For the iPad 1, if you have any valid SHSH blobs saved, you can restore to that iOS if and only if they're for your specific device, not from someone else's device.

Apple does not allow for downgrading and the installation of custom IPSW (by default) because IPSWs can be modded for malicious purposes, and can be a means of bypassing security protocols. Example would be if someone stole someone else's device on iOS 7, and Apple (theoretically) allows for open downgrades, the person can downgrade to iOS 6 to bypass the new iCloud/FindMyiPhone-iPad introduced in iOS 7, then sell the device back out for malicious gains.

In another scenario, allowing for downgrading/installation of custom IPSW means you can mod the system cores in the IPSW, and install malware, spyware, etc openly in a mass scale.

I tried using a different utility, but that did not work with the extension in which the blobs were saved. I'll try to find a different program though I think I've tried them all by now.

No matter what you try or what anyone may say, without blobs for the iOS version in question, there can be no downgrading. As has already been said, blobs are unique to your device and blobs from any other source WILL NOT WORK.

I know they are unique to my device, but with Bluefreeze I can modify the blobs from iOS 5.1.1 to work with older iOS'es ( in this case 4.2.1.) At least, that is what it says it does.

No you can't. It will not work, no matter what anybody says. Anybody who says any different is lying.

You cannot downgrade an iPad without blobs. Period.

As this thread is going in circles - it is now closed.
