Downloading movies wifi not 3G?

Hi all, I love my new iPad to bits!

am currently in a regional area and was hoping to download movies while I'm here Have no wifi connection here just 3G but I don't think that works -well it hasn't for me so far.

My question is then can you only download using wifi?
