I would like to e-mail myself MP3 files directly from my computer to the mail app on my iPad. I've tried downloading this file and I haven't been able to access it, so I'm not even sure if it sent correctly. Does anyone know how to do this? (For the record, I can't sync my iPad with my computer.)

Hi and welcome to the Forum!

Is the file showing in the mail app? If you long press this file for a couple of seconds you should get an Open In option box which will list any apps that you can save the file to. Do you have an app to save it to? I've heard that Goodreader is a great app for this as well as many other tasks.

I have just got an iPad mini. I have tried to download mp3s from an email as well and without success. Leelai, I'm confused. Wouldn't Music be the 'app' that would open an mp3 file???

Have you authorized your computer in iTunes? Store/Authorize This Computer. That might help you sync problems, and enable you to simply use iTunes to transfer music.

Unfortunately, Apple's Mail app does not "save" MP3 files to the iPad's Music app. The only way to get music into the Music app (without jail breaking) is to use iTunes to transfer music over. So, an e-mailed MP3 file cannot be saved; it can only be played in the Mail app. Well, it could be opened in another, 3rd party app - but that's not the same... :)

So, really, the question becomes: what is the issue you are having that prevents you from syncing the Mini to iTunes? If we can help figure that one out - then you can use iTunes.

hey thanks Mickey. I haven't actually tried to sync mi iPad to my PC because its not a Mac... and I'm assuming it can't be done and that's why I went straight to trying this (as well as dropbox). So can it be done???

Sure! Download the most recent version of iTunes from the Apple web site (make sure you get the Windows version :)). Once it's downloaded, install it. Then, you can connect your Mini to the PC (via the provided) USB cord. iTunes should recognize the iPad and then you can 'go to town" and put music on it.

I have a Windows 7 computer running iTunes and it syncs just fine with all my iDevices. No problems so far (knock on wood).

Marilyn, thanks for your response. I have now installed the latest version of iTunes on my PC and tried to sync it with my Mini. BUT it couldn't recognize t he device. Now this I think has to do with the PC itself and not with the iPad. I know this is an iPad forum but... Would anyone know what the problem likely is?? It's an old piece of junk but I think it meets the mini um requirements (Windows XP w/service pack 3). I have a lot of music stored in a hard drive that I want to access with the Mini!!!

Nevermind! It was just a matter of trying another USB port. Final question: can you transfer songs from the iPad to another device...? many thanks
