Downloading previously deleted emails

Every day I check my mail on my iPad and have set it to delete my mail from the server after it is removed from the inbox. However, each day it downloads emails from yesterday, sometimes from several days ago. I log in to my Comcast account and the messages seem t have been deleted correctly. Why would my iPad continue to download old messages? What can I do to solve this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
