DVD won't play ~ sound only!

This one DVD won't show the picture, only the sound. I tired several other movies and they all play, as I knew they would.

Can a DVD be too old in the way they made it to work on the newer DVD players?

Since the iPad does not have a DVD player, you have either converted it to a different format, or talking about a different piece of equipment. If the issue is with a dedicated DVD player, try putting it in a computer DVD slot to play.
