Well, I can only recommend the default mail app. I've run five accounts on it (two were POP accounts; the others are IMAP/Exchange accounts). Never had any trouble with any of them nor with the Mail app.
Is there something going wrong with the default app that is driving you to ask about another? I know people do use other Mail apps, maybe they'll be along to provide their recommendations.
