I know the question of excel has been brought up multiple times, but I have a specific question that I can not find an answer to. I want to buy an iPad, but I need it to run a full version of Excel. I work from a complex template containing data validation, macros, a specific format, and a few thousand formulas. Will Numbers run a few thousand formulas, fully import/export data validation, fully import/export all macros, and maintain all formatting?

Does anyone know if Microsoft intends to develop an office sweet for iPad that will allow Excel files to run in their native form?

Thank you for your thoughts.

I'm afraid not - there will never be a fully compatible Excel app for the iPad. It was never intended that the iPad would be a 'laptop substitute' - it's a third way - as Steve Jobs said - yes, it can do many things better than a laptop but some things not at all - full Excel compatibility - I'm afraid, never....

Thank you for the information. I don't understand why not, the processing power seems to be in place for that sort of an application. Oh well, guess I need to look for a Windows based tablet, exactly what I was trying to avoid.
